Science through the eyes of Grade 5
Term One: Adaptations. (Assessment due on Wednesday 7th October.) Next topic is 'Our place in Space'.
Term Two: Matter matters.
Term Three: (Light.)
Term Two: Matter matters.
Term Three: (Light.)
The first topic in Term One Science is 'Adaptations'.
Our kids will research a desert animal or plant and explain how it has adapted to the desert environment. They will need to discuss the appearance, habitat, diet and features of the particular living thing whilst including an annotated diagram. Next they will present their finding to the class via and ICT program of their choice.
The second topic in Term One Science, covers 'Earth's place in space'.
Students will explore different theories from the past to present, on Earth’s place in space. They will test theories by looking at observable features of the Sun, Earth and Moon.
Students will use their knowledge of how scientists use evidence to develop explanations of events and phenomena to demonstrate their understanding of how the Earth is part of a system of planets orbiting via dialogue.
Students will eventually present a cartoon (comic) style dialogue communicating 'Earth's place in space'. Teachers are looking for the use of technical language to support claims that explain everyday observations with evidence in their dramatic dialogue.
Our kids will also keep track of their work by showing their understanding of the subjects below, through diagrams and experiments in their science book.
· How planets in the Solar System orbit the Sun.
· How Moons in the Solar System orbit the planets.
· How the Earth is part of a system of planets orbiting the Sun.
